The advocacy center's board of directors has already reviewed the agreement, which would give the organization a 25-year lease for property the city owns adjacent to the Boys and Girls Club on McMahan Avenue

"We're really excited about it," Fain said.

The center would bring together different agencies that serve abused or neglected children, including the district attorney general's office, law enforcement, juvenile judges and Department of Children's Services.

Fain said they are still raising money for the project, and hope to begin construction of the project as soon as possible.

"We've had a groundswell of support," he said.

The next fund-raiser for the project is a luncheon/fashion show planned for the Buckhorn Inn in Gatlinburg on March 23, he said.
